Solutions and Redefining Horizons with Imagination

What they say about our
Social Transformation service…

Mark Padilla, PhD
Detroit Youth Passages
MPH, Associate Professor, Florida International University
Miami – United States

Dr. Matiz has provided great support for my research, anthropology, and public health projects, as well as in community activities I carry out in different parts of the world. As a professor of public health and medical anthropology, it has been critical for me to have a professional of such high caliber, with the ability to move the focus from a theoretical perspective to a concrete, emotional, and personal concept for the participants in the groups.

Academically, he has the knowledge of human development concepts and the art of facilitation to reach people at the level of touching the human being who makes decisions and generates motivation for change or organizational effort.

His ability to reach the human being behind the masks we all use daily is gold for all my projects.

Participating with Armando Matiz in the training processes for personal growth and professional development during the Achieve Your Harmony Seminars was impressive and of great value for my life and that of many people from key groups such as MSM populations, Transgender Women, Female Sex Workers, People with HIV, and the Garifuna Population in Honduras. These processes contributed to improving self-knowledge and self-worth, developing communication skills, interpersonal relationships, commitment and responsibility in both personal and professional spheres. Something very important was the achievement of bringing together MSM populations into a single entity to continue working in favor of their own human rights.

This was a unique experience in the country at a historical moment when the HIV epidemic was strongly impacting our populations. It was also a great contribution to the development of human resources in NGOs and the Ministry of Health, which are the cornerstone institutions in the HIV/AIDS response.

Dr. Matiz Reyes expertise transcends language and all participants, no matter their language, gained much from his work.

His highly empathetic manner and effective techniques for engaging people in the exploration of their self-awareness and motivation, draws people together in a powerfully shared experience, demonstrating how we are all connected to one another, and can help one another through our difficulties.

Over the years, I have been fortunate to participate in or observe Dr. Matiz Reyes at subsequent workshops in Bolivia and Argentina.

As a social scientist, Public Health researcher, and Program Health Evaluator, sometimes we focus on the technical aspects of data collection and forget that these data are gathered, analyzed, and interpreted by human beings. Working and receiving training with Dr. Matiz has taught me to incorporate facilitation techniques that take into account the realities, emotions, and hopes of those who are our sources of information.

Understanding and considering concepts such as Neuroplasticity and Emotional Intelligence when designing data collection instruments and during the analysis of these data increases the empirical richness of the information.

Our organization benefited greatly from the seminars and courses. We can highlight the focus and clarity achieved in our objectives, the awareness that we could achieve them thanks to the identification of our individual and group values, and the acquisition of methodological tools to put them at the service of personal and organizational growth.

We can affirm that, as a result of these courses, much of the success of our projects began to take shape.
